SOCIAL NORMS:customary rules of behaviour that coordinate interactions among people; a standard form of behaviour in a particular society.

Social norms are affected by 4 factors - behaviours, values, attitudes and beliefs.

--------------------------------------------------------------

NORM ENFORCEMENTS: norms that are to be imposed.

factors affecting norm enforcements:

-pure coordination motive: obeying norms for a particular motive

-threat of social disapproval or punishment for norm violations:

-internalisation of norms of proper conduct: norms recognised or practised all over the world.

-------------------------------------------------------------

PURPOSES OF THE VIRTUAL WORLD

-no need to meet them im real life.

-just words on screen

-desire to be someone you can't be in real life

-has low self-esteem and lack of confidence

-gain of recognition

-seek attention

-----------------------------------------------------------

THE RISK OF BLOGGING(virtual norm)

if you show unhappiness about government or a person or a product:-

-discrimination by the public.

-bear the consequences of law. e.g sued, fine, jail term, etc.

-attract unneccessary attention.

----------------------------------------------------------

REASONS FOR CHANGES ACCORDING TO THEIR SOCIETY

-fear of standing out and be themselves, being outcasted and being labeled "wierdo", etc.

-due to norms; it's how people generally act when present at different environments.

---------------------------------------------------------------

CONCLUSION

-each individual has different roles to play, based on the situation he/she is in.

e.g. HOME --> son

SCHOOL --> student

VITUAL WORLD --> a working adult.

-people tend to show/disguise themselves into different identity to suit different environment, be it a norm or what they want others to perceive themselves as.
